Prairie

Opulent the sapphire headcovering,
Swallowed up in the whole;
solid, unending firmament,
I long to stay tangled in the security of the earth and air.

Inexplicable sorrow and hope
from above and below;
Larger than life it looms ahead
and behind,
to right and left, above and below.

Formidable and unyielding,
it grants passage to those who seek it,
giving special rights
to those who respect it.

Quietly and without notice
it changes face.
Unrecognizeable to those
who cannot see its beauty.

Secrets offered
in the quiet murmurings of wind and grass.
Unrequited solace freely given,
Beckoning to return and pay homage.
